Scratchboard art is a form of direct engraving where the artist scratches off dark ink to reveal a white layer beneath. Jan uses an X-acto knife to create details and then uses pastels and special ink to create values and dark details. This type of art takes many hours to create layers. A special UV varnish is applied (5 layers) and framed (without glass). Color is added using pan pastels and this process takes longer to create.
