Jan enjoys the outdoors and nature. She gathers reference photos from wildlife adventures. Then she creates a composition from two or more photos that capture the wildlife animals. Life experiences, scenic places, and wildlife are expressed in Jan's paintings. She captures the animals in their environment and their expression or personality to create a painting. The animal's eyes are painted with great details to capture the "soul" of the animal.
In October of 2014, Jan attended an artist retreat workshop in Minnesota with several artists. Jan loved the experience of holding a fox and receiving a warm, welcomed kiss, that was very heart-felt. In 2016 Jan went on an unforgettable African Safari with Robert Caldwell & Friends. The group explored Tanzania, Ngorongoro Crater, the Serengeti, and Tarangire National Parks. The experience added a great depth of artistry in her wildlife paintings. Jan has been to Colorado Rocky Mountains and many other places where she can find animals in their own environment.
