In September 2016, Jan traveled to Tanzania, Africa on a Safari Adventure with Robert Caldwell and a group of artists. The experience was life changing and created a new outlook
on life, wildlife and her art. Her greatest adventure comes to life in her art created with inspirations from the heart. The Africa experience was more than photography or seeing the animals,
it was breathing the air, smelling the african rain that was so refreshing, watching the animals in their own environment. It was exciting to watch the elephants splashed in the water, playing with one
another, their trunks lifted high to smell the humans in the safari jeep (safe distance away).
"Experiencing africa's animals in the wild was the most rewarding adventure. It awakens your soul and opens your heart and eyes to the importance of conservation. These beautiful creatures are amazing to see in the wild. The beautiful sounds of birds and the monkeys during the day. At night I could hear many sounds of Africa like the roars of lions, hyenas, zebras making snorting sounds, the giraffe gliding its nose across the tent. The African rain was the most refreshing experience, the smells implanted in my senses for life! The magnitude of the landscapes and sunsets, sunrises, and seeing the Ngorongoro Crater's beautiful creatures. The smell of jasmine was so strong and glorious! It was more than a safari, it was an awakening of the soul. See my journey unfold as each painting will be created to show what captured my heart in Africa.
"Spirit Guide" was created to express the devastation that poaching has on orphaned baby elephants. Jan visited The Ivory Orphange in Tanzania with her safari group. A place that holds on to your heart and never lets go.
